MAYUDAMA HOUSE is a renovated old-Japanese art house with 134 years of history. Built in the late Edo period, when the Shogunate was reigning, this house was used as a silk mill in the 19th century. Surrounded by lush nature, the house nests in a region with deep forests and hot springs. One of the nearby hot springs is Kusatsu which is one of the most famous in Japan, where the Shogun came to rest, and became a model for the ghibli film “Spirited Away”. The fireplace (IRORI) was the center of life in the old days and you can still use it for cooking. We recommend grilling fish over the fire or cooking a Japanese hot pot in this fireplace as it is the classic dish to cook in an Irori. 【2F】 On the second floor, the South side is all renovated to have a wide view of the mountains.
