Take a stroll along one of the many forest paths or stroll down to the river Lickey where you can cast a line and pass a few relaxing hours. All of what nature has to offer is just outside you door. The house is centrally located between the port towns of Dungarvan (16km) and Youghal (20km) each boasts ample pubs, eateries and everything you would expect from large towns. Both towns have been in existence since the 10th and 12th centuries respectively and both offer a lot in the way of history, both towns have ample parking, shopping and other amenities. Dungarvan also benefits from an 11th century castle which is open to the public. Dungarvan, as well as being the starting point for the Waterford Greenway, a 46Km of off-road cycling and walking trail, there are also lots of scenic drives, walks, glorious gardens, art and not forgetting some retails therapy. Golf enthusiasts will love the fact that there are three great courses within a short drive of each other, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and West Waterford Golf Club. Youghal is a designated Irish Heritage Town and one of the few towns in Ireland where the medieval town walls still survive. Visit Youghal Clock Gate Tower, a most unique building, or take a guided tour of St Marys Collegiate Church a national medieval monument. From youghal you can take a cruise on the stunning Blackwater River with Tony Gallagher on 'The Maeve' Blackwater cruise. A must visit with the kids is Perks entertainment Center, one of the largest indoor entertainment center's in Ireland, choice from 10 pin bowling, adventure playcentre, lasertag, kiddie rides etc. Aura Leisure Center with 25mtr pool including slide and fun feature pool for kids. There is also 4 Beautiful villages to explore within 20 minutes drive of the property, 1) The much acclaimed Ardmore (12km) with its award winning eateries, blue flag beach, stunning cliff walk, a 5k way marked which takes about one hour to walk, this is a circular route which runs by Ram head passing the Coastguard Station, Castle and the lookout post used during World War 11 by coast watch personnel to log all ships and aircraft which passed,further on is Father O Donnells Well built by a Mr Rahilly in 1925. At the beginning of the cliff walk is St Declans well which served as a baptistery to the primitive Christian missionaries. Another walk of much longer duration is St Declan's Way, this is a modern waymarked walking route from Ardmore to Cashel in Co. Tipperary, it crosses the knockmealdown mountains and is 96 kilometers in length, you can choose to walk a single section or all five sections depending on your level of fitness. The Round Tower and Cathedral overlook Ardmore bay in a beautiful elevated position above the village and is the site of St Declan's monastery. 2) Clashmore (10kms) it has a small shop, post office and 2 pubs, it also has stunning river walks and access to the Blackwater. 3) Next Is the sleepy village of Aglish (13km) running through the village is the Geosh River, this is a tributary of the River Blackwater, aglish is right on the doorstep of the picturesque and historic village of , 4) Villerstown (15km), Set on the banks of the blackwater and at the entrance to the Drommana Estate, With Stately home and, beautiful walks and drives. You are also close to the town of Cappoquinn (26km), this town has loads to offer, set on the banks of the Blackwater and at the foothills of the Knockmealdown mountains, you have ample wood and glen walks, mountain drives or hikes or a ramble around the grounds of Mount Mellary Monestary. Just a short drive from here to the Historic and picturesque town of Lismore (32km) with its stunning and picturesque 11th Century Castle towering over the river crossing, The Castle boasts stunning gardens which are open to the public year around and the castle itself is also open to the public at certain times of the year. Here there is beautiful river and wood walks with hidden castles and towers to find and a stunning town to explore. A bit closer to home is the well known family run home of music, The Marine Bar, sit by the fire and enjoy a relaxing drink after a long day of exploring west waterford all the while listening to the many songs and ballads performed by local musicians and singers. The Marine Bar is nestled on the doorstep to the enchanting Gealteacht of, An Rinne (Ring) (14km), this incorporates the fishing port of Helvick and the Townland of old Parish, There is a coast road that runs through rich farmland from Helvick Head to Ardmore Village, and has stunning ocean views and beautiful cliff vistas, and leading off this road is a rich network of small narrow roads and Boreens to explore with many leading to beautiful hidden coves and beaches, where more often than not, you will have it all to yourself. Ring itself is a beautiful setting with 3 perfectly located and lively pubs offering food and music galore, where you can choose to sit outside and enjoy the views of dungarvan harbour and the Comeragh mountains in the backround while enjoying a glass of wine or a pint of your favourite beer as the sun sets on another fantastic day. If you have enough of driving, walking and swimming in the many beautiful beaches, mountains or walks in the surrounding area, then why not rent a bike or bring your own and pass away a day on the Waterford Greenway (16km) this stunning re-worked railway line runs between Dungarvan and Waterford city and boasts 46km's, of stunning walks and cycling track with beautiful views, and several places along the way to stop, take a breather enjoy a cup of tea or coffee or maybe even something to eat, or the more battle weary maybe something a little stronger to help with the thirst ;) Then there is two mountain ranges to explore, that offer stunning views and plenty of hiking trails, the Vee and the Comeragh Mountains with mahon falls are probably two of the more well known sights and hikes, but there is also several lakes and rivers set in the mountains that can be hiked too and there is also plenty of hiking opportunities on the mountains themselves for the more experienced. If you somehow manage to get fed up of all the natural beauty that surrounds you, the beautiful pubs, eateries and music, and yearn for the smell and life of the city. Then Cork city is just 65km away, stop into Middleton on the way and visit the famous Jameson's Distillery, Or you could travel to Waterford city 62km's away, While there you could travel out to the towns of Dunmore East or Tramore. Just make sure that you take the Coast road home if you do where you will pass through sleepy villages and be amazed at the awe inspiring ocean views, Cliffs and sandy coves along the way. If you are into fishing, then you are in for a treat, with the Colligan river in Dungarvan and the Blackwater River in Youghal with it's Lickey, Finisk and Bride tributeries you will never be stuck for a place to fish. There is also excellent fishing off Ballyquinn beach in Ardmore and mackeral can be caught off the Helvick and Admore Piers during Aug/Sept. No matter what you do I am certain that you will fail to get through it all, for there is far more to see and do than I have mentioned here, and once you have fallen in love with the area, a return trip will be a must to come once again and enjoy the surroundings.
