"Mukti" is Sanskrit for spiritual liberation. We have always wanted a soulful, peaceful space where we can go to to clear our minds and hearts and we found our little paradise in Nieu-Bethesda. We renovated the property extensively, whilst paying respect to the heritage and character of the home. The interiors have been beautifully curated and designed, with top quality bedding and utilities. Nieu-Bethesda (Afrikaans for New Bethesda) is a village in the Eastern Cape at the foot of the Sneeuberge, approximately 50 kilometres (31 mi) from Graaff Reinet. It was founded as a church town, like many other Karoo villages, and attained municipal status in 1886. Nieu-Bethesda was the last of the municipalities to receive electricity, as recently as 1991. The name is of biblical origin (John 5:2-4) and means "place of flowing water", due to the constant flow of the mountain spring. This water is shared throughout the town via sluicegates that control the "lei water". The village is known for its unique energy. There are no fuel stations, ATM's or tarred roads, which adds to its beautiful (and for many, spiritually uplifting) charm.
