A marble staircase leads to the first floor where you can find a hall with a small kitchenette and a sitting area with a sofa which can be used as a playroom for children since it is equipped with a 40” HDTV, video and board games. Also, on this floor, there is a very large furnished veranda where you can relax and enjoy the sea views. The villa is located in the picturesque village of Myrtia which can be found in the middle of Crete in the county of Heraklion. The charm and tranquility of the village is in marked contrast to the hustle and bustle of the coastal resorts. For those who love the sea, there are excellent beaches half an hour away from the house. Myrtia is a farming community surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. We are in the heart of the Peza wine country. Some fine wineries offering free wine tasting are only a few minutes drive away. For food lovers, nearby are restaurants with genuine local food, both budget and gourmet. The region offers the famous Cretan cuisine with its basics: extra virgin olive oil and wine. In the village, there are two grocery stores –one opens on Sundays also, a bakery, the museum of writer Nikos Kazantzakis, a bar, two tavernas –one with delivery service, a few churches –one dated back to the Byzantine era, a “fairies” cave and a football pitch, all in walking distance. There are a lot of sightseeing places around Myrtia which can be discovered with the villa as a starting point. The Minoan Palace of Knossos lies 10km away, Heraklion city 15km and the famous Hersonissos and Malia resorts 35 km away. The Agarathos Christian Orthodox Monastery built in the 15th century lies in a distance of 5km and so is Thrapsano village renown for its ceramics. The 120 sq.m. detached villa is ideal for large families or groups of friends and offers a high degree of privacy. It can host up to 8 guests. Babies and kids are welcome. There are three bedrooms with their own bathrooms. Master bedroom includes a wardrobe, a king size four posted bed, and an ensuite bathroom with toilet, basin and shower. Bedroom two includes a wardrobe, a double bed and an ensuite bathroom with toilet, basin and shower. Bedroom three includes king size bed. Toys and books available at the playroom (incl. Nerf) keep kids happy indoors when overdosing under the sun. Baby cot is available upon request. The third bathroom is just next to the third bedroom and includes bath tub, toilet, basin and washing machine. Clean bed linen and towels are provided. Food service or any service of commercial nature is not provided but we can make recommendations. The open plan living area is furnished with Greek themed art and linen and original antique pieces that belonged to the family for generations. It includes two sofas that can sleep two guests, an antique fridge which is used as a mini bar and a wood-burning fire place. We have plenty of olive trees wood to be burned within easy reach. Our TV is Smart LED HD but we'd rather you enjoy the company of those in your group. In case you still need to stay connected there is free wi-fi with a link-extension for the outdoor area. The living area also includes the dining area and an eat-in, easy-to-use country style kitchen completely equipped with European appliances (oven, microwave, refrigerators, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, coffee-maker etc.). The immediate access to the outside eating area gives you an airy sense of space. Other amenities in the house include hair dryer, iron & iron board, bluetooth speaker, mosquitoes net on all windows/doors, AC & central heating for winter holidays, warm water at all times. The landscape with endless mountain views is ideal if photography, painting or writing is your hobby. You can enjoy the sun, the bright blue sky, the chirping of crickets in the garden and the endless view of the surrounding valleys, olive groves, vineyards, hills, nearby villages, and church steeples. There is a beautiful view of the valley and hills from tall, western-facing windows. Enjoy the outside seating areas (front veranda, back garden yard or pool area) that are very relaxing for sitting and reading in the sun or shade. If you practice yoga, bring your mats. It is wonderful to practice outside in the morning / evening. The private swimming pool is ideal for relaxation and games in water. A shower by the pool makes your life easier. In the evenings you can watch the sunset and spot the sparrows or swallows that fly to the pool to wet their bellies on the water. Please note that the swimming pool is not heated and is therefore in use from April/May to October/November. There is an outdoor courtyard in the back of the house with a few orange trees and a barbeque to cook with coal or olive trees wood. If you smoke we would appreciate it that you do so outside. Winters are mild and summers are fantastic with dry and warm days and cool nights. You would have the use of the entire house. Having said that, we might need to come by to water the vegetables garden, clean the pool or check upon the solar power measurements. To do so, we would first contact you via what's up or email. The roof is covered by solar energy panels because we collect electricity power from the sun. This is why the entry on the roof is prohibited. The price is an average 150-300 euros per night depending on the season and there is a minimum 4 nights stay (3 or 5 on occassions). Upon arrival we can help you with anything else you might need (car rental, airport pick-up, reservations etc.). The airport and port are 15km away. Hiring a car is highly recommended as local buses are not so often. There is no dedicated parking plot, but parking is not an issue. You are allowed to park on the sides of the street. The village is quite and have a nice new tavern just 100m from the house (nice greek food at reasonable prices). The village is a very good base to visit the region from Heraklion and more generally the center of Crete (it's a daytrip to go to the western and eastern part of the island). There is a small gorge starting from the village for a 4 to 7km rather wild ride.

It is located on Cape Drapanos in the Vamos municipality of the Apokoronas region, Chania, Crete. In this officially protected, traditional village a lot of interesting buildings can be found, such as the 18th century two-roomed, arched olive oil press, the temples of Panagia and Agios Sergios, the old school and many residences. Many of the well-known Gavaliana wells still stand within a fantastic landscape. In addition there is an excellent folklore museum at Gavalochori Village; here you can see the history and the culture of the village. It is hosted in a renovated Venetian building with stone arches. The museum was founded in 1967 but was inaugurated in September 1993. It is housed in a building typical of the local traditional house architecture and occupies two levels. The first room represents the most typical traditional house of Crete, which is known as kamarospito. This type of rural house was initially single-spaced and had an arched opening which more or less divided it. In the second hall one can see exhibits made of silk, such as women’s clothing and weavings for household use. The pottery section (jugs, oil lamps, etc) and the historical collection of arms, paintings etc, are in the third hall. Passing on to the fourth room one can see bobbin lace and parts of a wood carved ecclesiastical iconostasis. In the last room there are elaborate stone artefacts. Finally, there is an agriculture and tourist women''s co-operation on the main square, which has a cottage industry producing knitting embroideries and laces of delicate art.
